Project Reference D-2 : Heritage Bursary Scheme

The need for the heritage bursaries was identified through the evaluation of RAPID’s Faughan Valley Area Based Programme which was funded through DARD’s Building Sustainable Prosperity Programme.  A small amount of environmental bursaries were funded through the Area Based Programme.  These were a great success and were over-subscribed leading to a recommendation that another bursary programme be initiated with a broader base to include heritage, history, conservation and local crafts courses as well as environmental courses.

The Heritage Bursary Scheme will provide funding for individuals to complete vocational and non-vocational qualifications in environmental, heritage, conservation, history and craft courses.  The bursary scheme will cover 3rd level qualifications as well as courses and classes taught in local community centres.

As part of the project The Faughan Valley Landscape Partnership Board will deliver an Accredited Local Heritage Skills Course in partnership with the Rural College, Derrynoid which will be accredited by the Rural College in partnership with NUI Maynooth University.
